When at all possible (and the cost is reasonable) we ask that you would please purchase flights that arrive into PAP before 5:30PM. We are primarily concerned with the safety of our groups, and traveling during daylight hours is an added measure of safety. If your group decides to purchase a flight with an arrival later than 5:30PM, please note that if our Haitian team determines the roads are not safe to travel at night when you arrive, your team will need to stay at a nearby hotel (MOH will arrange if deemed necessary) and your team will be responsible for all hotel costs.

Mission of Hope could not guarantee your safety in any country, state, or province that you happen to visit. However, with Haiti being a third-world country we understand travels can sometimes pose a higher risk. With this said, groups’ safety is our upmost concern. Mission of Hope is fortunate in that our Executive Director, St Marc Jean Lubin, worked for the US Embassy in Haiti for more than 3 decades. He is informed and is very knowledgeable of the true situation on the ground in Haiti. If there is ever an instance when he thinks we need to postpone trips or get teams out of the country, he will not hesitate to make that decision. Furthermore, Mission of Hope is located in the foothills out in the country and not in a highly populated urban area, with a gated campus.
Please visit the U.S. travel website
for the latest information from the U.S. State Department.

What about the Zika Virus?
As a precaution, we recommend that any women who are pregnant or think they might be pregnant NOT come to Mission of Hope until further notice due to the potential risk of the Zika virus. Zika virus is a single stranded RNA virus that can be spread to humans by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. In healthy adults and children symptoms are generally mild and include headache, rash, fever, malaise, joint pain, conjunctivitis (red eyes). While the infection is generally mild, it can be very dangerous to a developing fetus and has been linked to microcephaly in babies when the mother is infected with the virus during the first trimester.

Haiti is an exporter of peanuts. If someone on your team has this allergy it may not be safe for him or her to travel to Haiti.
Also, MOH uses peanut butter on the food buffets serval times each week. If you have additional food allergies (gluten, dairy, etc.), you will need to bring supplemental food, as we are not able to avoid cross contamination. Due to kitchen limitations and lack of storage space, this food needs to remain with you and needs to be non-perishable.
MOH purchases 80% of our food items in country. These items we ask teams to bring in help keep us running in the areas of supplies we cannot purchase in Haiti.
